In developing our new line of Internet Radio Tuners, we first gave consideration to how we have created certain products that have stood out
from the landscape of hi-fi audio equipment. The timeless Etude FM Tuner
launched back in 1988, the MD 208 (Stereophile's 2000 Product of the
Year), and more recently the launch of the World-Source Platform and the
MD 109 - all have helped affirm our ability to design and build products
that are truly world-leading. Our newest offering, the MD 809T Internet
Radio Tuner, is certain to be another one of these products. We feel it is the best Internet Radio Tuner on the market today.
Into it we poured every innovation in audio technology we have developed
over our 25+ year lifetime, and taken 'attention to detail' to a level
seen only seen in a select few products in our category. Boasting more
functionality than any product we have developed, the MD 809 Internet Radio Tuner
may quickly take over the 'most listened to' position among your
source-audio products.
Equipped with access to terrestrial FM broadcasts and DAB/DAB+ (where
available), the MD 809's functionality really shines when accessing over
20,000 Internet radio stations via the on-board wi-fi antenna or
connected LAN line. This huge collection of music is all available via
our intuitive, touch-screen driven software accessible on both the
faceplate AND remote. Or if you prefer, plug in your USB or
network-stored library of music files (including AAC+, Real, MP3, FLACs
and WMA), and navigate your digital music collection with ease.
Of course, smooth and simple functionality is a mere appetizer when
compared to the MD 809's main course. And that is a music experience so
realistic, so open and transparent and so incredibly detailed, that it
will change your opinion not only about Internet Radio, but also about
all digital audio sources. Despite the variability in bit rates and
sample rates among Internet radio audio broadcasts, or even among your
collection of digital audio files, the MD 809 Internet Radio Tuner will define a
new category of audio products in any home audio equipment collection.
Multiple Audio Sources: Access to over 20,000 Internet Radio
stations and podcasts via on board WiFi antenna or LAN. Access to terrestrial FM,
DAB/DAB+ (where available), and locally connected music collections in a
variety of formats (including AACs, Real, MP3s, FLAC and WMA).
Intuitive & Simple Software: Internet radio stations are neatly
organized and searchable by various categories (including country of
origin, most popular, favorites). Touch screen displays easy-to-read
information on current track's metadata, genre, bit rate, codec and
sampling rate. Personal audio collections (attached via local network or
USB flash stick/hard drive) are easy to navigate via artist name, album
name or genre. When connected, the software automatically connects to
the host for the latest firmware updates.
Functional Meets Fashion: With a 1" thick faceplate, a beautiful
5.7" color touch screen on the faceplate, and a burly chassis, the MD
809 is as striking to look at as it is to listen to. The metal bodywork
on the remote even houses its own 3.5" touch screen, ensuring identical
operation whether sitting on your listening chair or standing at the
unit. And to ensure safety during shipping, we will deliver your MD 809
in a custom made, re-enforced road case.
Digital-to-Analog Conversion: This full time upconverting DAC
is also found in our MD 109 and MD 309 - a proven design that is based on the reality
of signal variability in the digital domain. To ensure a consistent,
high-quality signal is fed to our audio stage, the full-time
upconverting DSP built into the design boosts all incoming signals to
24-bit/192kHz, and when combined with components widely recognized as
the best in the field, the resultant output is a perfectly clocked,
incredibly accurate signal that is virtually jitter-free.
Unparalleled Audio Stage: We have poured only our very best into
the MD 809's audio stage. Featuring the same TRACC audio technology as
found in our MD 109, we use cryo-treated 6922 vacuum tubes, Mundorf Gold
bypass capacitors, Vibrapod feet and a collection of other world-leading
components. Most important is our direct drive circuit topology, with no
capacitors after the gain stage of the tubes, which results in
incredibly low impedance (200 ohms) across the frequency range (0.2Hz -
200kHz). The result is an output signal that is virtually identical to
that which was received from the source.
Power Supply & Ground Plane: The combination of a clean supply of
power with special attention to the grounding plane is part of the MD
809's hallmark. A unique grounding loop built into the device eliminates
the inherent troubles with chassis grounding, and as a result all
sources of impurities that originate with the ground plane are
eliminated. Add the discrete toroidal power supplies for the DAC and
audio stage, and Beldon silver coated wire to connect the independent
boards in the unit, and the result is a signal that is free of any
ripple or transient noises - leaving only the pure original signal.
Flexible Outputs: With RCA and balanced analog outputs, the MD 809 will seamlessly integrate into
any home audio system. RCA and optical digital outputs are also standard
on the unit.
